Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia. And it’s one of the two states of Malaysia which is located in Borneo. Also known as ‘Land of Hornbills’ and ‘Land of many rivers’, it is known to international visitors for tourist spot such as Mulu Caves, the Niah Caves, and Bako Park.
The capital city is Kuching which means ‘Cat City’ and flights to Kuchng International Airport is in regular service. Major cities are connected by buses and road. While travel by boats are common because of the vast area that Sungai Rejang (the longest river in the country, 590km long) covers, light aircrafts and helicopters are also available when travel to areas where boats are unreachable. It consists of 28 ethnic groups; each with its own distinct language, culture and lifestyle. The major ethnic groups are the Ibans, Chinese, Bidayuh, Melanau, Malays and other native tribes.
Once ruled by Brookes family for about 100 years from 1841 – 1941, despite the rapid urbanization, many historical remains of the Brookes can still be found at Kuching. There are a few major highlights in this fascinating state, besides Kuching, the major highlight is Mulu Caves, where the longest cave in South East Asia and largest cave chamber in the world. Niah Park although one of the smallest park, but within it hidden oldest modern human remains in South East Asia. The Living Museum, is also one of the major highlights, visitors have to visit this village if one are in Sarawak. Visitors to the Village can sample instant Sarawak all in one single place. |
