Malaysia comprises of 3 main ethnic groups, Malay, Chinese and Indian. Although each ethnic groups speaks their own dialect, all of them are able to speak the Malaysia National Language, which is “Bahasa Malaysia” (Malay) and English. Here are some of the basic words that might be useful for your trip to Malaysia.

One = Satu
Two = Dua
Three = Tiga
Four = Empat
Five = Lima
Six = Enam
Seven = Tujuh
Eight = Lapan
Nine = Sembilan
Ten = Sepuluh

Land = tanah
Island = pulau
Hill = gunung
Drinks = minuman
Food = makanan
Traffic light = lampu isyarat
Shopping complex = Pusat membeli belah
Souvenirs = Buah tangan

Black = Hitam
Blue = Biru
Hijau = Green
White = Putih
Yellow = Kuning
Purple = Unggu
Orange = Jingga

Good morning = Selamat pagi
Good evening = Selamat petang
Good night = Selamat malam
Bye = Selamat tinggal

How are you  = Apa khabar
I’m fine          = Khabar baik

Nice weather = cuaca baik

What’s the price = Berapa harga

Money changer = kaunter penukaran wang

Small change = duit kecil

Can you show me the way to that place = Bolehkah tolong tunjukkan arah ke tempat tersebut

How to get to the airport = Bagaimana hendak pergi ke lapangan terbang

I am staying in the hotel = Saya tinggal di hotel

I’m sick = Saya sakit

Where can I buy some medicine = Di mana saya boleh beli ubat

Where can I get a nice meal = Di mana saya boleh menikmati makanan yang sedap

How can I go to that island = Bagaimana saya boleh sampai ke pulau tersebut

Can you help me to take photo = Boleh tolong tangkap gambar

Are you local = Adakah anda orang tempatan

How far is the place from here = Berapa jauh tempat tersebut dari sini
